Our office provides general dentistry that is designed to prevent oral health complications and maintain an amazing smile. We offer a variety of services including soft tissue management (professional cleanings, scaling and root planing, and periodontal maintenance), tooth-colored fillings, comprehensive dental assessments, radiographs, oral cancer screenings, and bite analysis.

Professional Cleanings and Dental Exams

Our office recommends having your teeth professionally cleaned at least every six months, along with brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.  Bacteria and food particles can become lodged in difficult to reach places which can lead to areas of inflammation. Tartar is a hard, calcified deposit that forms on teeth and harbors bacteria and should be removed to avoid complications. Our hygienists can remove tartar build-up and polish your teeth for a clean, healthy smile.  Once a year during your professional cleaning, it is recommended to have periodontal charting and radiographs to check the health of your gum tissue, teeth, and bone.  Dr. Mitschke will perform periodic exams concurrent with your professional cleanings to check for signs of decay, infection, gum disease and oral cancer.

Periodontal Therapy

Dr. Mitschke and his team can treat periodontal disease with non-surgical periodontal therapy, or scaling and root planing.  Periodontal disease is assessed by using dental radiographs, and by performing both a visual examination and a periodontal charting of the tissues.  Dental radiographs show any areas or type of bone loss, along with any sub-gingival calculus (tartar) deposits present.  Periodontal charting measures for pocketing, or attachment loss, around the teeth.  When you have deep pocketing in the gums, bacteria and debris cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone.  Professional scaling and root planing is necessary to remove bacteria and calculus deposits below the gum line to ensure tissue resolution.  Once scaling and root planing has been completed to arrest gum disease, the tissues must be closely monitored with periodontal maintenance cleanings.  Dr. Mitschke will work with his team of hygienists to determine the frequency of your periodontal maintenance appointments.  In some cases, Arestin®, or a site specific antibiotic, will be placed under the gums to aid in the healing of the tissues.  Learn more information on symptoms and treatment of gum disease.

Children’s Dentistry

It is important for your child to have a positive experience at the dentist so that they feel comfortable and avoid developing dental anxiety.  We encourage you to begin your child’s oral health care at home as an infant, and schedule their first dental appointment around age three, unless you have a dental concern or notice a potential problem.  Children should have regular cleanings and dental exams every six months to ensure they maintain healthy teeth and gums.  Dr. Mitschke also provides additional cavity protection with fluoride treatments and dental sealants. Read about how to ensure your child’s dental health.

Resin Fillings

Dr. Mitschke can treat small areas of tooth decay, or cavities, with composite resin fillings.  These tooth-colored restorations will look like a natural part of your tooth.  Dr. Mitschke can also replace old amalgam, or “silver”, fillings with resin fillings to make your teeth look more natural.

Dr. Mitschke serves Spring, Houston, Tomball, The Woodlands, and surrounding areas. Our friendly practice offers a wide range of cosmetic, general and restorative services. Make your appointment today!
